3 graduate credits

Course Director: Dr. John J. Monaco

This is a basic course intended for students with little or no prior experience in immunology. It is a team-taught course that covers the major concepts in cellular and molecular immunology, based on the current textbook (Cellular and Molecular Immunology by Abbas & Lichtman- 5th edition) as well as the research expertise of the teaching faculty. It is appropriate for 1st or 2nd year graduate students, advanced undergraduates, technicians in immunology labs, and research fellows wishing to update their knowledge of current concepts in immunology. While there are no official prerequisites, students will find basic knowledge of molecular genetics/biochemistry and cell biology useful. Course format is three, 50 minute lectures per week. Grading is based on two or three closed book, predominantly essay-type exams. The dates and topics of the lectures, scheduled exams and list of faculty lecturers, as well as other information related to the course, including powerpoint slides used by the lecturers (where available) and a sample exam, are all posted online on Blackboard - the University's electronic educational platform.
