There are several areas of research in our laboratory mainly aimed at understanding normalcy and disease in the cardiovascular system. For example, the goal of one project is to understand the role of stress molecules on the development and remodeling of the cardiovascular system in mammals. Another project has been designed to study the regulation of the genes and proteins that are involved in information transfer across the maternal fetal interface. The transporters are of particular interest in this respect include sodium and water channels (aquaporins). We study the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of these genes and the proteins that they encode, and are especially interested in understanding the role that these genes may play in human diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity.
