Research interests:

My basic research interests are in the host response to infectious agents. My principal focus is on the influence of T cells and cytokines in the development of the protective immune response. The model organism I use to study the pulmonary response is Histoplasma capsulatum, a fungus that does require level 3 containment. The contribution of these arms of the immune system is vitally important to many pathogens including those that are biological warfare agents such as Bacillus anthracis and Franciscella tularensis.
